Weligama is one of Sri Lanka’s most practical learning spots, with a wide sandy bay and generally predictable waves in season. It is easy to build progression here, from first take-off to confident turns.
Good for beginners: yes, it is one of the best places to start.

How to get there: from Colombo, usually 2.5-3.5 hours by car, or by train with a short final transfer.
